Power Supply Unit (PSU): requirement

The Power Supply Unit (PSU), also term is ed as Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a small multi-functional unit that is usually placed at the top-back of the CPU.
The PSU is the transformer that converts the Alternating Current (A.C.) power supply to Direct Current (D.C.) power. DC is required to power all the components of the computer system.
The input to the PSU is a power cable with 3 pins that we connect at the back of the CPU.
The output is comprised of multiple power cables with different ports that are connected to various components of the CPU to provide power.
Most well designed PSU's also act as a good exhaust system for the CPU. These PSU's have a large fan that takes in hot air from the inside of the CPU as well as the PSU and blows it out from the back of the CPU effectively cooling the atmosphere near the CPU.
